Sorell Print E-mail

Not far to the east of Hobart is the gateway city of Sorell. Sorell is a smaller community dedicated to the agriculture of the region as well as an outreach of the larger city. Overall it has well known for sheep, dairy and mixed farming, but the tourism industry is growing steadily. Produce markets are still available with local wares.

The area’s close ties to the larger Hobart also have prompted the establishment of a more commercial center complete with retail establishments and fine restaurants. Overall, the diversity of the area ensures accommodations and food selections are varied enough to appeal to all residents and visitors alike.

The largest draw of the city is the beautiful landscape and pristine beaches. The well-known South Marion Bay, or Boneyards, is famous for its attraction to expert surfers and the water is mild enough to entice divers as well. Sorell is also rich in heritage buildings and local history. The internationally known Ramsar site at Orielton Lagoon is located within Sorell as well. This is a center for migratory birds from the continents north of Tasmania.
