Side Story
Hobart and South

Located in the Southeastern region of Tasmania, Hobart is the capital of the state with the highest population in Tasmania. Originally established as a penal colony and to ward off French explorers, Hobart quickly grew into a major seaport. With the Derwent River’s deepwater capabilities, Hobart became home to sea industries such as shipbuilding, whaling and other fishing trades.

Hobart’s waterfront or commonly known to the locals as Salamanca is a must visit for all travellers.  Situated only 5 minutes walk from the CBD, it is the hub for all your activities.  Surrounded by cafes, bars and boutique shops, the Salamanca area attracts everyone to enjoy the vibe and exciting atmosphere.  From Salamanca you can take a cruise to the famous Cadbury’s Chocolate Factory visiting a winery along the way or alternatively take a cruise around the Derwent River and enjoy a drink while admiring the clean and pristine air.

Salamanca Market
Every Saturday morning from 8am to 3pm, Salamanca turns into a market selling anything and everything to delight visitors.  From the local arts and crafts to live music there is something for everyone to enjoy.  Why not try one of the local sausages topped with the freshest sauces or take home the locally made jams.  To explore the whole market will require 2 hours.  Parking is available around the market and within walking distance from the CBD.
