Halfway between Launceston and Hobart, Campbell Town is a perfect depiction of a simple country village. The small town was settled in 1830 and remains the center of Tasmania’s sheep farming region. Additionally, Campbell Town was the birthplace of Harold Gatty, the first man to fly around the world.

Despite its small size, Campbell Town offers much in the way of interesting attractions. Colonial buildings abound in the city and many are open for tours or simply impressive to see. The Grange was the home of a wealthy doctor in the town and was built in 1840. It is wonderfully preserved as is the Foxhunter’s Return, Red Bridge and St. Luke’s Church.

In addition to the lovely heritage sites, Campbell Town also contains some of the agricultural amenities that make up the entire region of Tasmania. The sleepy town has much the same comfortable feel as it did 100 years ago, but is ideal for discriminating visitors.
